INTEGRA

The INTEGRA project gathers a unique multidisciplinary consortium of seven partners for a duration of 3 years. Its overall objectives are to develop new genetic engineering tools that will permit site-directed integration of a transgene into the genome of the desired eukaryotic organism and to use these new tools in various applications to demonstrate their potential.

A strong societal element is integrated into the project in order to develop the most ethically sound research, to orient it towards both economic and societal benefits, and to equip the project participants for qualified discussion with the rest of the society.

This project will allow the easy and rapid generation of "knock-out" (KO) or "knock-in" (KI) animals, even in large animals, without the need for "embryonic stem cells" (ES cells). This will have visible repercussions on fundamental and applied research, particularly in pharmaceutics, agronomy and food sciences.
